Kardamena is located 29 kilometers southwest of the city of Kos and the small port of the village are frequent services to Nisyros and the marina guests to tie their private boats and to refuel with the essentials. Village of great archaeological significance as it is built in the ancient city Alaserna where after archaeological excavations unearthed the temple of Apollo and Hercules, traces of marble temple of the third example century, an ancient theater, Roman buildings and ruins of the basilica of the Holy Godhead. Noteworthy are the churches of Santa Barbara, Anargiron the saints and the Virgin Mary. Every summer there are the "Alasarna" which include many cultural events, theatrical performances, concerts, art exhibitions, traditional dances, symposia and lectures, various games (cycling, chess, etc.) and the Naval week, and while there are big festivals on August 29, St. John, and on September 8, Mary. The peaceful location of the village is decorated with wonderful buildings and houses offered for relaxing in the sun and the sea and water sports. Access to the village is easy by car, bike or by regular local bus and the taxi rank in the village facilitate transportation around the island.
